State of the note

As of Monday Jun 9 2025 I feel like it’s a little short, and doesn’t quite capture everything I have to say about this, but it does get to the core of the idea.

I’m find it hard to write blog posts. I never got into a rhythm and my “drafts” just linger for ages, accumulating bitrot. Instead, I’m going to switch to publishing notes. These are shorter, likely link to other notes, and, most importantly: will be edited.

This means the note doesn’t have to be perfect, or even good. As long as it’s in a state where I feel like I can share it with people, it’s live. This really helps me lower my activation energy for writing these, and (hopefully) means I’ll be writing way more.

Other examples

If you want inspiration for what this can look like, Andy Matuschak’s notes are a frequently-cited example. I also like Rach Smith’s quite a bit. The term digital garden might also be a good keyword.
